Politics and Insights

Written by Rachel Reeves and Stephen Timms, November 20th

This week’s report from Oxfam, Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG), the Church of England and The Trussell Trust makes shocking reading for anyone who believes our welfare state is there to ensure nobody in our society falls into extreme want or deprivation.

The Trussell Trust has previously reported that 913,138 people were given three days emergency food and support in 2013-14 – more than ten times as many as in 2009-10. This important report, based on extensive interviews and analysis of food bank data, suggests that around a third of food bank users were waiting for a decision on their benefits, and between 20 and 30 per cent had seen their benefits reduced or stopped because of a sanction.

This suggests something is going badly wrong with the operation of our safety net under this Tory-led government.

‘Two thirds of those hit by the bedroom tax are disabled. 60,000 are carers.’

Ever heard of the ‘Housing Benefit Social Sector Size Criteria’? No? Well you’re not alone. On the other hand, if you were asked what the name for the government’s decision to force half a million families to pay a tax on their bedroom is called, most people would say the ‘bedroom tax’.

Last month I travelled to Pembrokeshire to meet Paul, Sue, and their grandson Warren, who are one of thousands of families hit by the bedroom tax. Paul and Sue look after Warren…

More Preparations For the UK 2015 Election

The Economy Is Shattered Alistair McMillan‘The Economy Is Shattered’ https://www.facebook.com/alistair.mcmillan.92  Thanks to Labour Left for the link.

What this ConDem Cabal has done is no joke though.  That’s Nick Clegg arm-in-arm with David Cameron and Gid Osborne who have conspired to ruin this country and hand the remnants to the EU.

UK destined to be just a vassal state and a whistle stop on the tourist circuit while all the real jobs are exported to everywhere else!

Have you finished your rant GovWatch?  Rumble Rumble Rumble ….. Tap Tap Tap …. What the?  Oh Hello NLAT.  Howz things?  You were late to the party on that 19 percent payrise for Gid;s BB pal though.  What kept you?  http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/george-osborne-gives-mate-19-4836747?ICID=FB_mirror_main

I wonder what private companies will benefit from said funds then, if as they say, they arent losing out, but redirecting the money……..

The North’s poor are going hungry after the Government rejected a £22m food fund from Europe, it is claimed today by the region’s Labour MEPs.

David Cameron has been criticised for allegedly failing to take the money, which could directly go to foodbanks in the region, over fears it reveals the UK’s dependency on the EU and weakens his position.

However the Conservative Party have dismissed Labour’s claims, saying people are not missing out on the EU cash and have £2.9m to spend.

Labour MEPs have now written an open letter to the Prime Minister asking him to lift his block on support for the country’s most vulnerable people for what they consider is solely for ‘ideological reasons’.

The European Aid to the Most Deprived Fund is worth £2.5bn, and is available to all EU member countries to dip into to help people who are most in need.

Perhaps Sandra Swivel Eyes will find her head is such a spin having to block so many tweets about her ‘bucket worthy’ motivational psychobabble, she might wake up out of her obvious dissociated state and realise she has been brainwashed into believing her own drivel.

the void

sanction-sheriffSandra Lambert, manager of 149 Jobcentres and self-styled lifestyle guru, has spent much of the last few days frantically blocking people on twitter who have been taking the piss out of the cringemaking motivational advice she inflicts on the poor bastards who work for her.

She wasn’t fast enough however to hide the tweet in which she awarded a Texas style sherriff’s badge to Jobcentres in the midlands for upholding their DMA decision rate – as spotted by @refuted.  A DMA means a referral to a Jobcentre ‘decision maker’ to process a benefit sanction.  It is the second time this month a DWP manager has been exposed praising their staff for hitting benefit sanction targets – targets that Iain Duncan Smith’s department have repeatedly claimed do not exist.

It is not just that the DWP are lying which is so contempible, all government departments lie after all.  It…
